New: Mushroom Forest Trip

March 5th, 2008

About 2 months ago we started Mushroom Forest dive trips and it is a great success!
We are now doing the Mushroom Forest trip 3 times a week; Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. We leave by boat from Cas Abao Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches of the Caribbean, so after the dives, you can chill on the white sandy beach.

The first dive of this 2-tank morning boat dive goes to Mushroom Forest, one of the most famous dive sites of Curacao. This beautiful site consists of a long shallow plateau with mushroom-shaped coral formations ‘growing’ out of it.
The site is completed by the most exciting underwater animals swimming through and hiding in the mushrooms. If time (air) is left, we also visit the Blue Room during the first dive. This cave, where the clear blue Curacao water plays with the always present sunshine resulting in a shimmering blue room, is spectacular.

The second dive is a drift dive between Porto Mari and Cas Abao beach, called Rivendale (Harry Potter fans will know!). This untouched site, which you can only reach by boat, shows you all off Curacao’s underwater world you expected. Stingrays, turtles, maybe even dolphins and a lot, lot more can be seen during this dive.

Curacao is not just about diving

October 28th, 2007

We found another well-written article about diving on Curacao. This one is by Lilah Tusko who is a freelance writer for http://www.scubadivingsolutions.com.

Many modern scuba diving destinations that are just now gaining the attention and interest of the scuba diving community have little else to offer other than great dive sites and numerous dive shops. They seem to lack the heart and soul of a historical location that can keep you enthralled during the whole of your vacation and not just those times that you are under water. While these new destinations might be ideal for hard-core divers, they are less appealing to families or beginner divers that might be interested in a balanced vacation that can engage all of the senses instead of a vacation filled with a mind-numbing whirlwind of scuba diving activity.  Read the rest of this entry »

Snorkeling and diving in Curacao

October 12th, 2007

We found a really well written article online by a writer for the Marriott. We’re no writers so we could never tell you about Curacao as well as he does, so here goes.

Home to over 80 miles of pristine coral reef, myriad tropical fish, sponges, sea turtles, seahorses, eels and dolphins, the waters surrounding Curacao beg to be enjoyed and photographed. Besides boasting the clearest water in the Caribbean, with average visibility between 80-140 feet, year-round water temperatures of 78-83°F allow the ocean to be enjoyed regardless of season. Whether you want to snorkel or scuba dive, there are plenty of experienced dive operators providing daily boat trips and tours to all the best locations. From quiet coves with shallow reefs perfect for snorkelers and beginning divers, to coral walls with strong currents for experienced drift divers, there are sites in Curacao for everyone. In addition to being recognized as the best snorkeling and scuba diving location in the Caribbean, Curacao was also named the “3rd Best Destination in the World” by Scuba Diving Magazine. With over 80 unique dive and snorkel sites to be explored, this article will merely scratch the surface of what Curacao has to offer. Porto Marie is a wonderful site for all levels of divers and snorkelers with a quiet, scenic beach to relax before and after your dive. Currents and swells here are light and the visibility averages 80 feet. Porto Marie offers a unique double reef dive, with a 100-foot wide, 50-foot deep sandy valley separating the inner and outer reefs. Read the rest of this entry »

Maintenance on the Reef Runner

July 25th, 2007

Last month we gave the Explorador her large overhaul, but she wasn’t the only one due for some TLC this year. In february we give the Reef Runner the twice-over as well.

The Reef Runner was almost entirely refitted and the photographs are spectacular. We took her apart, cleaned everything, gave her a paint job, cleaned and replaced engine parts and built her up again. It took some time, but she’s as good as new. Read the rest of this entry »

Maintenance on the Explorador

July 23rd, 2007

Last month we gave one of our boats, the Explorador, a large overhaul. We gave every nut and bolt the care and attention it deserves and the results really are to write home about. She’s just like new again. Read the rest of this entry »
